Spell Descriptions and Strategies
Immobilize
Immobilize is the first spell you’ll unlock in Black Myth: Wukong and one of the most powerful tools in your arsenal. During an early battle against the Bullguard, you’ll unlock this spell after a mid-fight cutscene.
When cast, Immobilize freezes any enemy in place, allowing you to land free hits or retreat to heal. The flexibility it offers makes it invaluable for both offense and defense. To maximize its effectiveness, prioritize upgrading the left side of the spell tree to recover Mana when breaking the spell and to increase the damage dealt to immobilized enemies.
Cloud Step
The second spell you’ll encounter in Chapter 1 is Cloud Step. After defeating the Whiteclad Noble and entering Blackwind Cave, you’ll face the Black Wind King. Upon his retreat, you’ll learn the Cloud Step spell.
Cloud Step allows you to turn invisible, leaving behind a clone that distracts enemies. Upgrading this spell lets you perform a charged Heavy Attack while hidden, so focus on increasing the spell’s duration and your movement speed while invisible.
A Pluck of Many
In Chapter 2, depending on your path, you might unlock A Pluck of Many first. After defeating the King of Flowing Sands and his Son, take the right path to the Fright Cliff. You’ll eventually descend into the Yellow Wind Formation area, triggering an encounter with the Headless Monk, who teaches you this spell.
A Pluck of Many summons a group of clones that attack your enemies. Though the spell has a long windup, the distraction and extra damage can turn the tide of battle. When upgrading, focus on enhancing the health and damage of the clones to make them more effective.
Rock Solid
If you opt for the left path in Chapter 2 after defeating the King of Flowing Sands and his Son, you’ll enter a cave leading to Crouching Tiger Temple. Here, you’ll face Vanguard Tiger, one of the main bosses of the chapter. Defeating him unlocks the Rock Solid spell.
Rock Solid hardens your character’s body, allowing you to block and parry enemy attacks. If timed correctly, you can counterattack with devastating force. Upgrading this spell to regain large amounts of Mana upon a successful parry is powerful, but it will reduce the window for a perfect parry, so use it wisely.
Ring of Fire
In Chapter 3, after escaping the Pagoda Realm, you’ll reach the Snowveiled Trail. Explore the left side to find stairs leading to the Warding Temple. Inside, you’ll encounter the old man who previously blessed your Gourd and engage in a rematch against the Macaque Chief. Winning this battle rewards you with the Ring of Fire spell.
Ring of Fire is a recovery-focused spell that enhances Focus gain and health recovery from your Gourd. However, the spell requires you to remain within the ring, which can be risky. Given that it occupies the same slot as Immobilize, many players may prefer to skip this spell.
Spell Binder
Also in Chapter 3, you can unlock Spell Binder by completing the Treasure Hunter’s quest. Start by saving the man in the temple west of Bitter Lake – North Shrine. After speaking with him, he will move near the Forest of Felicity – Towers of Karma Shrine. Use your Ring of Fire spell near him and speak again to prompt him to move to the Melon Field Shrine. This eventually leads to a boss fight, where you’ll earn the Spell Binder spell.
When activated, Spell Binder blocks the use of all Spells, Transformations, Vessels, and Spirits, but in return, it significantly boosts your attack power. This spell is particularly effective for melee-focused builds, offering a substantial increase in damage output.
Life-Saving Strand
The Life-Saving Strand is the final spell in Black Myth: Wukong, offering a potential lifeline in difficult battles. We’re still in the process of discovering how to unlock this powerful spell, so check back later for updates.
When used, Life-Saving Strand resurrects your character, giving you a second chance to defeat your enemy. While it doesn’t replenish your Gourd, it can be the difference between victory and defeat, especially in battles where a single hit could mean the end. However, equipping this spell means giving up A Pluck of Many, so choose carefully.
