Techland, the developer behind the popular zombie survival game series Dying Light, has announced via the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that it will be removing the Ultimate Edition and the Upgrade to Ultimate Edition for Dying Light 2 Stay Human from all digital storefronts. Starting from September 30, the Ultimate Edition will no longer be available for purchase.
The studio has reassured players who already own the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 Stay Human that their access to the content will remain unaffected. It is also worth noting that the Ultimate Edition can still be purchased before the September 30 deadline.
In related news, Techland recently unveiled Dying Light: The Beast, a new game announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live. This upcoming title will feature Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the first Dying Light game. Techland has stated that Dying Light: The Beast originally began as DLC for Dying Light 2 but will now be released as a standalone game.
In a separate tweet, the developer explained that the expansive nature of the new standalone title is part of the reason for discontinuing the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2.
“As we were developing Dying Light: The Beast, the original scope expanded. We are now delivering a full 18+ hour standalone adventure instead of just a DLC,” Techland wrote. “We will honor our commitment to our long term supporters by providing Dying Light: The Beast to current Ultimate Edition owners at no extra cost but due to the increased scale, we will not be selling it in the future.”
Dying Light: The Beast is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A release date will be announced later this year.
