Marvel Rivals, the much-anticipated new free-to-play shooter from NetEase Games, has finally received an official release date. During Gamescom, it was revealed that the game will launch on December 6, 2024, for PC and current-gen consoles, specifically the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Despite the excitement surrounding the announcement, it appears that NetEase has no plans to bring the game to other platforms, such as mobile devices or the Nintendo Switch.
In an interview with Pocket Tactics at Gamescom, game director Thaddeus Sasser confirmed that there are currently “no discussions” at NetEase regarding a mobile version of Marvel Rivals or a release on the Nintendo Switch. This news may not come as a surprise given the specific challenges of porting console games to mobile platforms, which often require a completely new version of the game.
As for the Nintendo Switch, NetEase seems to be aware of the current hardware limitations, as the console is in the final phase of its life cycle. It’s more likely that the company will wait for the next generation of Nintendo hardware before considering a release on that platform.
For now, fans of Marvel and shooter games can look forward to the release of Marvel Rivals on December 6, 2024, exclusively for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
