Review: DLC Woolhaven, Cult of the Lamb
A cold but strong expansion
Woolhaven takes you to a completely new winter area. Everything feels different: The atmosphere is killer, literal and figurative. Snow, new enemies, other structures and especially a new vibe. Where the basic game was already a fine mix between roguelike combat and cult management, this extension adds an extra layer to it.
The new dungeons are more challenging than I thought. Enemies feel a bit more aggressive and you really need to get sharp again. It's not just “more of the same”It forces you to rethink builds and strategy. That is exactly what good enlargement should do.
But what Woolhaven really excels in is in the expansion of your camp. Your base gets bigger and you get new ways to keep your followers busy. It feels less limited, allowing you to build more creatively and efficientlyëNter can manage. For players who especially enjoy the cult part (including me), this is highly recommended!
What's in this preparation?
- A brand new area: You will be taken to the freezing mountain world of Woolhaven, the old home of the lambs that lead your cult.
- New storyline: You help the forgotten deity Yngya to regain her strength by freeing lost souls and discovering the dark truth about the past.
- New enemies and dungeons: There are two completely new dungeons with unique enemies and challenges.
- Ranching System: Your cult can now tame, breed and nurture animals, which helps to survive in the harsh winter.
- New buildings: You get special winter buildings like a hot tub to keep your followers warm.
- Large camp expansion: Your base will be almost twice as large, giving more room for new systems and structures.
Mistakes? There are others.
Yet not everything is perfect. You must have played the basic game to actually dive into this. For new players this is not a boarding point. In addition, the beginning can be a bit overwhelming. There's a lot of new mechanics coming up, and if you haven't played for a while, you really got to get back in.
Also, not everyone thinks the price is entirely justified. It's a lot of content, but it's still an extension. Yet I think what you get for this price is very neat!

Verdict
With the DLC Woolhaven proves that Cult of the Lamb is far from finished. It feels bigger, deeper and slightly more challenging than before. Still playing the game with pleasure? Then this is actually an extension you need. Have you quit? Then maybe this is exactly the push you need to get back to your cult.
