Final Fantasy XVI is a brave step in a new direction for the famous Final Fantasy series. Story and Setting

The story of Final Fantasy XVI takes place in the kingdom of Valistthea, a world where control of magic crystals the so-called Mothercrystals is crucial to the prosperity of the different nations. The world is ruled by so-called Dominants, individuals who are able to channel the power of the Eikons (the iconic beings representing the crystals).

The protagonist, Clive Rosfield, is the eldest son of the king of Rosaria, a kingdom dominated by the power of the Phoenix Eikon. The story follows his journey from personal tragedy to a wider war between nations, with the balance of power constantly shifting through the rivalry between the Eikons and their carriers. The story is dark and mature, with themes of revenge, betrayal, and sacrifice. Clive's journey is strongly motivated by loss and a desire for justice, making the story both deeply emotional and intensely compelling.

Gameplay

Final Fantasy XVI has its roots in traditional action RPGs, but with a clear emphasis on action. The combat system is one of the most striking changes in the series.
