Review: Mall Manager Simulator

First impression

Mall Manager Simulator, developed by Kinetic Mobile Games and Krisztian Blaha, lets you take control of an empty mall that you need to turn into a vibrant commercial paradise. With a mix of micromanagement, humor and chaos, the game offers a surprisingly entertaining simulation experience even though not everything is finished equally tightly.

Gameplay and mechanics

You start small: a few empty stores, a handful of products and a tablet interface that allows you to control everything. From ordering goods to fixing prices, hiring staff and keeping your mall clean you decide. As you grow, you unlock more features such as security, cashiers and even online orders.

The game excels in the sense of progression. It's satisfying to see your mall grow, see customers flow in and see your winnings blow up. But it's not all spreadsheets and strategy: You drive on a segway to catch shoplifters and chase clowns (formerly homeless) with a money gun  a bizarre mechanic that is both absurd and controversial.

Visual style and interface

Mall Manager Simulator runs in a simple but functional visual style. The graphics aren't impressive, but they do their job. The tablet interface with which you manage your mall is intuïtive and clear, which makes micromanagement accessible. The animations are sometimes woody, but match the light tone of the game.

Depth and balance

Although the game offers many tasks from stock management to personnel management, it sometimes lacks depth. Customer AI is limited, and optimizing store layouts feels more like trial and error than strategic thinking. Yet the hectic and tempo ensure an addictive gameplay loop.

The game recently received a big update (“No More Thieves & Lazy Cashiers”) which brought many quality-of-life improvements, including better AI and bug fixes. This shows that developers listen to feedback and continue to actively improve.
