Review: Revenge of the Savage Planet

Survival on its own

Revenge of the Savage Planet is the long-awaited successor of Journey to the Savage Planet (2020) and takes players on a humorous and colorful adventure through the universe. This game is a unique mix of satire, exploration and action.

Story and "Revenge"

In Revenge of the Savage Planet you will be taken on an alien adventure in which you will play as an explorer left to their fate by a powerful company. After a disappointing letter of resignation, you have to make it all by yourself on a strange planet full of unknown beings and dangers. It is up to you to explore this new world, to explore alien flora and fauna, and to survive among all the challenges. Eventually it's about taking "Revenge" on your former employer!

The game is played in third person (in the first version was the first person), the switch to a third person gives you more overview and control during jumping, climbing and fighting. You get an arsenal of smart gadgets, like a gun that you can upgrade and a magic fork that can use metal objects as weapons. In addition, there are handy tools such as a hose that can spray liquids, which ensures variety in the fights and puzzles.
There are no less than five different planets to discover, each with their own unique landscapes and ecosystems. While exploring, you collect raw materials and run scans of the bizarre life forms you encounter. Those scans help you to improve your equipment and to get further into the game.

A big plus is that you can experience this adventure both solo and with friends. You can now split-screen or play online with others in addition to cross-play you can easily connect to anyone. Thanks to a smart matchmaking collaboration feels very natural.

What also makes the game special is the humorous and satirical tone. Everywhere in the game you find funny references to the acquisitions, greed and bureaucracy of large companies, brought through fun videos and emails. The visual style is bright and cartoon-like, with vibrant colours and a fun animation style.
