Review: Seaferer: The Ship Sim - PS5
Seafarer: The Ship Sim is a simulation game that gives you the chance to experience life at sea at close range. Instead of just sailing a ship from A to B, you get the opportunity to control different types of ships, carry out assignments and your own carriè• to build in the maritime world. Think of freight transport, port operations, patrols, rescue operations and transporting different types of cargo. The game consequently tries to create a broad maritime experience in which both the sailing and the work on board are central.
What makes Seafarer interesting is the combination of sailing, performing assignments and exploring a vast world with ports and sailing areas. You're not just driving a ship, you're also dealing with the practical side of maritime life. Just this variety makes the game attractive to players who are looking for more than a simple sailing simulator.
The different ships ensure that not every assignment feels the same. Transport of cargo requires a different approach than carrying out towing or participating in rescue missions. Maneuvering in ports can also be a challenge, especially when considering the size and control of a ship. This gives the gameplay a pleasant variety and ensures that different aspects of shipping are covered.
Another strong point is the developer's ambition. Seafarer tries to set up a world in which you not only complete separate missions, but also gradually build your own career. With the Career Update, trade opportunities, business management and more freedom to work independently with ships have been added. This has given the game more potential as a maritime sandbox in which you can decide how to spend your time on the water.

Yet not everything is equally strong. The control and behaviour of ships must be convincing to make a simulation like this work. When maneuvers don't feel completely natural, that diminishes the experience. Missions, technical finishing and stability also play an important role. OfficialëLe update history shows that the developer has been working on several issues, including crashes, steady missions, performance problems and interfaces.
My own experience with the technical problems deserves special attention. Just after the release I only had crashes. The game was therefore hardly decent to play at that time and that was of course quite frustrating. I then contacted the developer via email, explained the situation extensively and also sent a video to show you exactly what went wrong.
What I find particularly positive about this is how quickly this particular issue was resolved. After my report, the problem was solved very quickly. That does not completely remove the frustration of the first play sessions, but it nevertheless shows that it can be useful to clearly report problems and that something can actually be done with feedback. I think that is an important plus, because a developer who takes players seriously and reacts quickly deserves recognition.
This does not mean that every player will automatically have the same experience or that all technical problems have disappeared. After the full release, the developer also mentions well-known points of interest. For me, however, the quick solution to my own crash problem is clearly in the final judgment.

The audiovisual presentation furthermore contributes to the atmosphere. Boating over open water, entering ports and working from the bridge together form the basis of experience. For lovers of shipping it is nice to get to know different ships and to discover the world from the perspective of a captain. At the same time, the overall finish could be even more consistent in some respects. Especially with a simulation game, you expect tasks to function reliably and that the technique does not interfere with gameplay.
Seafarer's development is also an important part of the story. The game received several updates during Early Access and was officially released on September 24, 2026. The developer has made several improvements in the field of missions, control, performance and stability.
This gives confidence in further development, although it remains important to assess how well the game works in practice.

Verdict
Seafarer: The Ship Sim is an ambitious shipping simulator with plenty of potential and variety to keep lovers of maritime games busy for a long time. The different ships, the different assignments and the possibilities to build your own career form a strong basis. At the same time, there are technical and substantive points which can still be improved.
My first experience was disappointing due to the persistent crashes just after the release. However, the fact that I contacted the developer myself, explained the situation and sent a video, after which my problem was resolved very quickly, has influenced my judgment. It is nice to see that feedback is taken seriously and not just ignored.
Finally, I find Seafarer: The Ship Sim is recommended for players who like to sail with ships, carry out port work and build a maritime career. It is not the perfect simulation in all respects, but the combination of gameplay, possibilities and the involvement of the developer makes it a game that is definitely worth the effort. With further improvements, this can become an even stronger experience.
