Review: Truck Driving

INTRODUCTION

There are times when you just don't feel like hectic. No bombs that explode, no endless combo’s or puzzles that give you grey hair. Sometimes you just want to pick up the controller and disappear into something simple. Just drive, mind at zero.

Truck Driving plays right on that. No complicated management systems or realistic simulations for which you first have to search a manual. You start, you gas and you finish your mission. Meanwhile, you can collect new skins through coins, earned by completing missions. The idea is simple: You're the driver, the road is your friend or enemy, depending on how quickly you master the controls. I found it super easy myself.

And that sounds pretty good, but then the question: know Truck Driving you too éIs it really holding, or does it feel like you've seen everything?

GAMEPLAY

Once the mission starts in my truck, I know: This will not be a stressful race or banging action game, but a ride you can just disappear into. No hassle, no chaos, just you, your truck and the road ahead.

The gameplay is nice and straightforward. You drive from A to B, with B as finish. At first you have to get used to the controls, but after a few minutes you cruise the road and catch yourself almost in a zen mode. The hills and bends create that bit of tension, but that is also part of the charm. In addition, you collect skins for your truck, which adds something to the variation of the game next to the curves and hills.

What I do regret is that there is little variation in the rides. The missions repeat themselves quite quickly and the world feels a bit empty and flat. The graphics and the sound aren't really involved either, so it's not compelling or impressive. It's just a little too basic.

Still, I have to say that it's precisely that escape of all stressful games. You drive in peace towards your destination and get that little sense of satisfaction when everything goes neatly. For short, relaxed play sessions the game works surprisingly well.

Truck Driving on the Switch is not a deep game, but more a light snack. Perfect if you feel like relaxing and making miles, without complex systems or high level of difficulty. If you expect a real trucker'sim with depth and realism, this ride probably feels too short.

My feeling: nice for in between, but not a game you spend weeks in.

GRAPHICS, ART & AUDIT

On graphics, imaging and audio there is actually little special to notice. It's all, like the game itself, pretty basic. There is little to report on this.

PERFORMANCE & TECHNIQUE

The game works without problems and runs well. No crashes or other technical problems, which is also not surprising: the download size is only 194 MB.
