Review in progress: Seaferer: The Ship Sim

Astragon Entertainment is known for its realistic simulators such as Police Simulator: Patrol Officers and Firefighting Simulator: Ignite. With Seafarer: The Ship Sim The team is trying to set a new course: a maritime simulator in which you as captain several carrièto explore the sea. The game is available as Early Access from October 7, 2025 and offers a first look at an ambitious open world concept.

Gameplay and carrières

The player starts by choosing a faction:

  • Crescent Port Logistics: focuses on freight transport and port services.

  • Tide Patrol: focuses on maritime safety, inspections and rescue operations.

Each faction offers unique missions, such as docking a cargo ship with a tug or inspecting ships for compliance. The gameplay is strictly simulative: small steering corrections can have major consequences, and each ship has its own control and weight. Players must therefore learn to navigate and manoeuvre.

Control and perspective

You can freely switch between first and third person perspectives. This is useful: sailing goes better in third person while operating buttons and systems intuïTiger is first person. The control requires exercise, and beginners will notice that precision is crucial. Building a fleet and hiring crew is part of your careerèdevelopment.

Technical performance

On Powerful PC’s the game comes into its own, thanks to the Unreal Engine 5 and NVIDIA’s WaveWorks 2.0. On less powerful systems, such as the Steam Deck, performance varies. Graphically the game looks less impressive than on the screenshots. NPC’s are fully spoken, but their mouth does not move during dialogues, which slightly breaks the immersion.

World and atmosphere

The open world has several ports and cities, with dynamic weather conditions and marine fauna. The missions are scattered around this world, making regular long journeys. Although some landscapes are simple, there are surprising details and interactions on board your ship, such as repairing engines or fixing ropes.

Verdict Theo (Protest Editor)

The Ship Sim Shows it's got a lot going on right now. For fans of shipping and realistic simulators, it feels like one of the strongest titles in the genre, even though it's still in Early Access. The combination of convincing control, strong graphic presentation and a clear commitment to realism make this game a solid base. If the developers further refine the current dots and expand the content, they can The Ship Sim Become one of the best and most complete shipping simulators on the market.
