GTA 6 allows players to refuel and repair vehicles at service stations

GTA 6 introduces a more comprehensive vehicle management system whereby players can not only repair their cars, but also need to refuel or charge. Rockstar Games thus seems to once again place more emphasis on realism within the open world.

At service stations, players are given different possibilities to maintain their vehicle. For example, damaged cars can be repaired and vehicles can be supplied with fuel or electricity. Those who choose to refuel are presented with a short interactive action, according to the available information, lasting about ten seconds. During this quick-time event an animation can be seen in which the vehicle is actually refueled.

The addition means that players should more consciously consider the state and fuel level of their vehicle while exploring the game world. In earlier GTA games, fuel consumption played no role, making the new mechanics a striking change within the series.

Rob Nelson, co-studio boss of Rockstar North, seems to be aware that not every player will be enthusiastic about the extra realistic game mechanism. When asked about the choice of the system, he responded with a second question about how players will receive the addition.

The system can provide more immersion, but at the same time can generate discussion among players who value the fast and accessible character of GTA. The impact of the fuel and repair system on the gameplay will become apparent when GTA 6.
