PlayStation 6 approaching: what we already know about Sonyâ€TMs next generation console
Five years after the launch of the PlayStation 5 and with the PS5 Pro approaching, attention slowly but surely shifts to PlayStation 6. Although Sony himself has not officially confirmed anything, several signals indicate that the development of the new console is in full swing.
According to sources within the industry Sony aims to release at the end of 2027 or early 2028. AMD has now confirmed that it is working on new PlayStation hardware, presumably with a Zen 5 processor and RDNA 5 graphic chip. The PS6 would enable 4K gaming with 60 to 120 fps, even with ray tracing active, and possibly get an AI chip for dynamic graphic optimization.
Progress has also been made in terms of design. There are rumours circulating about a slimmer model with vapour chamber cooling and a modular design without mandatory disk unit. In addition, Sony would work on a portable variant that can run local games, as an extension on the PlayStation Portal.
On a software level, Sony focuses on family friendliness. The recently launched PlayStation Family app points to deeper integration of parental control and family profiles into the PS6 operating system. At the same time, at the end of 2025, the officialëLe PlayStation Gear store, with plans to offer merchandise via external channels.
About games seems Sony target full backwards compatibility with PS5 and possibly PS4 titles. Developers would already have access to PS6 devkits by early 2026, with new first-party titles in the making.
The expected price is between € 599 and € 649. This makes the PS6 not only a more powerful console, but also a strategic step towards a broader, smarter and more sustainable PlayStation ecosystem.
