Preview: Battlefield 6 (Open Beta 1) - First impressions

Since last Thursday we could play both the closed and open beta of battlefield 6,  And we have extensively tested the multiplayer. The result? An explosive return to the classic Battlefield chaos: Michael Bay-like explosions, missiles along your head and constant action. DICE and EA seem to be putting everything on track for success, and you feel it.  In the first weekend we could play Conquest, Breakthrough, Domination and King of the Hill on three maps: Siege of Cairo, Liberation Peak and Ibarian Offensive. Challenges produced skins and stickers, and next week Rush will join us with extra maps, weapons and rewards

Gunplay & Classes

The gunplay is tight and almost seamless, with a fine balance between realism and flexibility. Movement feels fluent, slides do not disturb, and the lack of tactical sprint makes the tempo constant. Minus point: aim assist on controller is almost absent, so precision is sometimes disappointing. Classes combine old and new elements, which works surprisingly well.

Vehicles

Tanks, jets and helicopters make the battles grander and teamwork more important. Heliâ€TMs are currently too vulnerable to missile locks, even with smoke.

Maps & Destruction

The three maps shown have strong designs in Conquest, but feel unfair in Breakthrough, especially for attackers. Verticality is still lacking, so gameplay sometimes feels flat. Positive: destruction is back in full glory. From houses to walls it creates dynamic, changing battlefields.

Performance & Graphics

On PS5, the beta runs smoothly, with stable framerates and tight visuals in the Frostbite engine. Servers were surprisingly stable, with minimal glitches. Graphically, the game looks realistic, but the subtle colour selection sometimes makes enemies hard to spot on a TV screen. Unfortunately, on the PC we were unable to test him because of technical defects.

Verdict: Jan

Battlefield 6 feels like a successful return to the roots, with great battles, strong gunplay and impressive destruction. With tweaks of balance, aim assist and map verticality this can become the Battlefield that fans have been waiting for for for years.

Battlefield 6 beta was great on the PC. The graphics and mechanics were top. I was seriously HYPED for Battelfield 6 beta, but right now it's hard to decide what I really think. My opinion is fairly divided. Net code, tickrate, overpowered weapons, vehicle-movement, scope glitter and overpowered shotguns. Opposite; Great graphics, mechanics, the BATTLEFIELD FEEL and the Back to Basic Battlefield gameplay (meaning Battlefield Bad Company, 3 and 4). It feels OLDSKOOL but not completely complete.

Let's hope that BETA weekend-2 of Battlefield 6 has improved and that Battlefield Studios (DICE) listened to the community.

Fingers crossed!

See you on the Battlefield!
