Spectacular disclosure: 007: First Light puts James Bond back on the map

During a special State of Play broadcast, developer IO Interactive gave a comprehensive first look at 007: First Light, the latest video game in the legendary James Bond franchise. The presentation, which lasted more than forty minutes, gave fans an in-depth preview of the gameplay, characters and the story of this long-awaited title.

A young union in training In 007: First Light will introduce players to a young yet inexperienced James Bond. As a reckless recruit, he began his first steps within the MI6 training program. What begins as a simple mission to neutralize a loose agent ends in a tragedy that forces Bond to cooperate with his reluctant mentor, John Greenway. Together they become entangled in a conspiracy that threatens to undermine the foundations of the British state.

Gameplay: stealth, action and gadgets The game is developed by IO Interactive, known from the successful Hitman series. As in that series, the emphasis is on stealth and creative approaches to missions, but First Light adds explosive action and an arsenal of innovative gadgets. Players can use their environment to trick enemies, find alternative routes and use high-tech tools to achieve their goals.

During the presentation the cast was also revealed. Actor Patrick Gibson takes on the role of James Bond, while Lennie James gives form to mentor John Greenway. Priyanga Burford plays the role of M, the head of MI6.

Release date and pre-orders 007: First Light appears on 27 March 2026 before PlayStation 5, Xbox Series XS, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. Pre-orders are now open. Players who purchase the game in advance get access to a Deluxe Edition with exclusive outfits, gadget skins and 24 hours early access to the game.

With this new title seems IO Interactive takes a fresh and ambitious direction for the James Bond franchise, combining the classic espionage story with modern gameplay and an in-depth character portrait of the iconic secret agent.
