Hidden Steam browser affects performance: This is what you can do.

Steam runs a full web browser in the background even when you're not in the Store. This may result in framedrops and other instability. Does that bother you too? Then read on quickly how to fix it.

  1. Open Steam and go to Settings.

  1. Go to the In-Game tab and uncheck it “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game”.

  1. Then go to the tab Interface and remove the tick from “GPU accelerated rendering in web views”.

You told Steam to stop using your GPU to render his fancy menu’S while you're gaming. Result: More stable frames, less stutter.
