World of Warcraft remains PC-exclusive: Blizzard disables console rumors
World of Warcraft does not come to consoles, and according to game director Ion Hazzikostas there is simply no reason to do so. In a recent interview with the podcast Unshackled Fury he announced that if Blizzard worked on a console version, they would just say it honestly. “There's no reason for us to hide anything,” said Hazzikostas.
The developers continue to focus on the PC version of WoW. The upcoming expansion World of Warcraft: In particular, Midnight needs to improve the playing feeling. Think of clearer endgame fights, custom class rotations and built-in tools that make popular mods redundant. The goal is to make the game more accessible without losing sight of the hardcore MMO veterans.
Rumors of a possible console-port have been around for some time, especially since Microsoft took over Activision Blizzard in 2023. Many fans speculated that WoW would finally find its way to Xbox, especially because the new generation of consoles is getting closer to a PC. Yet Blizzard makes it clear that that is not on the agenda for the time being.
Hazzikostas admitted that the improvements in Midnight would make it easier to bring WoW to consoles in the long run, should that ever happen. But for now, the focus is entirely on the PC community.
According to recent dataamines, the pre-patch for Midnight appears to appear early next year, probably in February.
